Located in the Northern Region, with an area of 4849 km2, Mole National Park i s the largest and most developed protected area for eco-tourism and nature conservation in Ghana. Mole is famous in West Africa for offering excellent close-up elephant encounters!
The park’s vegetation of wooded Guinea Savanna is home to a large variety of wildlife. Elephant , buffalo, antelope, warthogs, lions, leopard, and monkeys are notable examples of the over 90 mammal species to be found at Mole.
The park offers guided walking and driving safaris led by our dedicated and experienced wildlife staff. These safaris are offered in the early noon. The walking tours are suitable for all ages.
In order to get the most from your visit, spend at least one night at the Mole Hotel or overnight campground and go on the guided early morning walking or driving safari into the park to get the best view of the untamed but ”friendly” elephants , antelopes, warthogs, baboons and other monkeys. In the afternoon, you can continue your adventure with another guided tour, this time perhaps exploring some of the smaller flora and fauna that you missed during your morning tour. Mole offers a premium site for birding with over 300 identified bird species. Delight yourself as you watch egrets, flycatchers, marabou storks, bateleur eagles, only a few among the many to be seen. Reptile enthusiasts can watch for a variety of snakes such as pythons and vipers, crocodiles, monitor lizards and various species of skink and lizard. Enjoy the beauty of these magnificent reptiles.
Keep your expectations high, as there are many other interesting things to see while on safari such as giant anthill mounds, stunning butterflies and moths. Amuse and educate yourself as you watch a dung beetle rolling its prize away.
Complete your safari with a visit to the Mole Museum to be captivated by the educational tools available. You will see various skins, skulls and interesting facts about some of the animals found within the Park.
Acquaint yourself with the history, culture and nature of the community; introduce yourself to their way of life.
If you wish to explore in the area outside the park then rent a bicycle or drive to Larabanga where the oldest Mosque in West Africa is found. Or you can visit the Mystic Stone and Murugu spring.
Relaxation
If relation and unwinding is your priority then Mole National Park is the ideal spot for you. One can sit back and appreciate the animals of Mole without even having to leave the tranquility of the motel! It is very common to simply lounge at the motel viewing platform while you watch a group of elephants playing in the waterhole. Enjoy one of the many beverages our restaurant has to offer as you watch a herd of kob and waterbuck moving across the savanna. Go to the poolside and immerse yourself in the soothing, cool waters as you witness a troop of baboons move down from a tree right before your eyes!
As you stroll back to your room, don’t be surprised if there are numerous warthogs grazing on the vegetation right outside your room. Watching the sun set across the Guinea Savanna and listening to the gentle sounds that come with the night is the perfect end to a very serene and wonderful day.
At Mole National Park, we want to enjoy these many treasures of the wild, but keep in mind that the animals are “friendly” yet still wild and potentially harmful.
